More Than an Animated Film

Posted in Film on August 26, 2009 by repyourbarkada

9, a film directed by Shane Acker will be released in theaters September 9th, 2009.  Originally, the work was a short film that Acker produced in 2005.  For it, he won the Student Academy Award: Gold Award/Animation, Animex: First Prize/3-D Animation, and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Foundation College Award: First Prize/Non-Traditional Animation among several other honorary titles.

From what I’ve read, from synopsis, marketing attempts to expand on history outside of the film, the background of the film itself and what I’ve seen in the trailer, this work is more than just an animated film.  As anyone might argue, most all of the animated films that have been put out conjure moral themes; friendship, work ethic, camaraderie, youth.  But,  my enthusiasm for this particular work stems from the specific themes this film seems to focus on.  From analysing the several  facets of individuality that encompass one person, to warfare and the unrelenting theme that humankind will inevitably serve as the means to its own end based on its nature.  This film is philosophical, humanistic, political, and a genuine warning to all mankind.  That is quite a message for an animated film to carry.  Expressed through a medium that traditionally communicates to children, alternatively, the themes focused on are traditionally geared towards the minds of young adults and older generations.  It would be a personally beautiful assumption to believe that the motivation of this film is to stimulate an awareness of the truth about mankind’s implications on the well being of its continued survival in subsequent generations at an early age.
America as a society has a tendency to hide the ugly truth, politically and internationally, but more importantly domestically, in the home, through our education.  Primarily the victims are our youth and it would be a lie to accuse America of being the only state to present knowledge with a skewed view, a hint of bias ultimately in the benefit of the image of the nation diffusing knowledge.  It is a problem for all of humanity to address as a whole and this movie attempts to convey just that.  It doesn’t focus on one nation or one social group hailing the end of civilization, it is a joint task that took the efforts of all industrialized mankind inhabiting earth to destroy it.  An ugly truth of our reality today that we need to quickly address, starting by doing our youth a favor and enlightening them.

I’m not quite sure what these creations will do in the future, but one thing is clear, we’ve made so many mistakes in the past.  I want to make sure these foolish decisions are never repeated.  To do that, the world collectively must learn, and remember.  Not a faint emotional memory, but a clear record of time.

Air Jordan 60+ White/Yellow/Blue

Posted in Fashion, Hobbies on August 18, 2009 by repyourbarkada

With the Jordan 7′s pack, the 60+ Black/White/Varsity Red, and a slew of Jordan 4 Fusion colorways having made their way to retailers, the past several weeks have had a busy schedule for releases.  With Summer winding down and the Fall season just around the corner, it’s evident that the upcoming months are going to stir up some buzz with the release of a Spiz’ike boot fusion some time in October and the anticipated Jordan Retro 11 “Space Jam” in late November.  However, here’s something a little closer to the present, on September 19th the Air Jordan 60+ White/Yellow/Blue will be shipped to and ready for distribution at authorized retailers.  Christmas in Fall, any thoughts?

Express Your Soul @ Soul Expressions Tattoo

Posted in Art on August 16, 2009 by repyourbarkada
On Thursday, I got a chance to drop by Soul Expressions Tattoo in Temecula, California.  I spent my visit taking some pictures of the shop and asking some of the artists if I could setup interviews with them in the near future.  Ramon Samonte, one of the lead designers for MNRS also works at Soul Expressions, aside from graphic design, Ramon is an aspiring tattoo artist.  If you’ve been thinking about getting a tattoo, or have wanted to inquire about information regarding tattoos and the culture that revolves around it, definitely consider dropping by the shop located off the corner of Winchester and Jefferson.  Getting a chance to talk to some of the guys at the shop, see what they do, and the art that they produce, it’s evident that these artists care about the service they provide, not only is it their job but its their passion as well, and I can guarantee that the same care will reveal itself on the quality of the tattoos they create for each and every one of their customers.  For contact information and portfolios, visit the shop’s website.
Expect several interviews and artist profiles sometime in the future, also, subscribe to their myspace profile and check frequently for announcements, promotions and future art shows.
